Cowrie

A Hand-painted Silk Scarf Project.

About the project

A workshop on hand-painted silk scarf, teaching the technical interplay between pigments and textile; to design and execute high-end wearable art pieces.

To create art by capturing the ignored frames from surroundings, in this case, a broken cowrie mirror left in trash.

Concept Note

I am a believer of the fact that you find beauty sometimes while doing the most mundane things aimlessly. I found this small mirror on my campus this one day, edges covered in sand and decorated by the cowries. such a simple thing yet something to save for a keepsake; just because you can. I was quick to capture this. Later on, decided to abstract it and use a fragment of the image as the inspiration for the scarf.

Selected portion of the image.
